Facebook

Module #8

I try to keep my titles interesting, but I failed this time...I blame it on NaNoWriMo. All my creative energy is going into that. Today I did the Facebook module. I already have a Facebook account, so I did the Discovery exercises for that. I 'liked' the Brookston Prairie Township Public Library, my local library. (I'm technically from Chalmers, and the library there was a small room in the back of the municipal building, so that hardly counts.) I have a few fond memories of the Brookston Library. I remember going there years ago and getting this movie. I can't remember what it was called, but there were people dressed up as animals (I think), anyway, it was a very awesome movie, and I remember making my mom check it out to me all the time.

Facebook would be a great way for the library to advertise events and inform the public about events and services the library provides. Some positive outcomes of having a Facebook page for the library would be an increase in program attendance or patrons learning about more things the library can do for them besides just providing access to the computers. Some negative outcomes could be if the Facebook page was not maintained correctly (or at all) and was a sparse page with not a lot of information available. An institution might be reluctant to use Facebook as a way to communicate information because it involves a lot of up keep, and we would have to assign a person to maintain it. Also, things would have to be approved for the webpage.

It's a slow day today, so maybe I'll continue?
